A really unusual piece of UK Ice Hockey ephemera – a programme from the 1948 Challenge Game between Streatham and Wembley – a representative side drawn from players of both the Wembley Lions and Wembley Monarchs. The game was a pre-season Challenge Game.

This programme is from the ‘Golden Era’ of British Post-War Ice Hockey in the late 1940’s.

The game was played at Streatham Ice Rink – a building that was opened in 1931, but sadly lost as an ice hockey venue in 2011.

With a seating capacity of around 1,200 + standing room, the Streatham Ice Rink was one of the smaller rinks in London, when compared to the Empire Pool, Wembley; the Empress Hall, Earls Court, and the Harringay Arena.

Consequently, fewer Streatham match programmes were ever produced, compared to the likes of the Wembley Lions and Harringay Racers, and even fewer have survived to today, making them eagerly sought after by collectors of ice hockey ephemera.
